18V applicator for Jacob the chippie
Jacob the Chippie tests the 18V Powered Applicator.

After six years as a carpenter, Jacob Barrass AKA @jacobthechippie knows all about the difficulties of using manual chemical adhesive applicators on building sites.

Used for dispensing sealants, adhesives and other construction chemicals, the downside of manual adhesive applicators includes the fact that they are heavy, especially when used for extended periods, not ergonomically-designed, which puts strain on wrists and hands, and are easily clogged with dried adhesive if not regularly maintained.

Having used Ramset products from the very beginning of his career, Jacob thought that if anyone had a solution to this problem it would be Ramset.

“We were doing it [applying chemicals via applicator] by hand and I thought surely, there’s a battery-powered one. I Googled it and saw Ramset had one but I had never seen one on site.”

“We have a crew of eight and not one of them had seen one, either.”

After listening to feedback from tradies like Jacob who were fed-up with wrangling cumbersome chemical applicators, Ramset introduced a user-friendly battery-powered version. The Ramset 18V Powered Applicator Lithium-Ion cordless applicator can be used for dispensing all Ramset chemical injection products. Robust yet lightweight, it can be used for long periods without causing fatigue, making it safer. The 18V Powered Applicator also allows for better precision and consistency, creating a neater finish.

After reaching out to Ramset, Jacob was sent the 18V chemical applicator gun to trial on different projects he was working on.

“The first time I used it I was blown away by it and thought, why hadn’t I had one sooner. ”

“With the mechanical version, you have to pump it a few times to get the chemicals, then press the button. If there’s 16 or 30 holes in the house and you have to pump four times for each that’s a lot.”

“With the battery-powered version, you just hold the trigger and it is so much easier.”

Jacob also loves the fact the unlike traditional manual applicators, the battery-powered chemical applicator is cleaner and more precise, allowing him to complete a better-quality job.

“It is non-drip so you’re not wasting the chemical.”

Another bonus? It turns a two-person task into a solo job, freeing up the time of another tradie, allowing them to complete other tasks.

“With this I can do it without releasing the gun,” Jacob says.

“With the manual version it was one person pumping it, and one person putting the rod in. Now I use one finger on the gun and I use my other hand to put in the rod.”

Jacob says the battery-powered version is a massive time-saver, too, commenting that it is at least twice as fast as the manual version.

“I’ve been blown away by it.”
